TO DO LIST
Now that the BUILD source is released, and while we wait for GTI to release the Blood-specific code, we should start discussing what it is we want to do with it.
Below is a list of ideas for what can/should be done.
Anyone with further suggestions can email them to me.
- The BUILD source must be ported over from the now-defunct Watcom C 11.0 to something that we can all work with. Comments and instructions have to be provided in detail so that others can easily get started on their projects.
- I say we tackle any bugs we encounter, both in BUILD and in Blood, so that at least we will have an optimized version before we begin...
- ...WinBlood. If we made Blood into a Win32 application, all those sound card problems would be a thing of the past, I believe. We could also modify current Blood launchers. It would also pave the way for...
- ...a REAL GLBlood. OpenGL is, I believe, the best choice (as opposed to Glide or DirectX). It may sound like a pipedream to change a "2.5D" game into an eye-pleasing game, but if you have a look at Doom Legacy, I think you'll be convinced. It'll be nice to have smoothe, buttery framerates, won't it? Speaking of which - no framerate cap for all you MegaMachine owners.
- Once WinBlood is underway, ports to other OS's should be next. Obviously Linux would be first, but then BeOS, SparQ, WindowsCE (can you say "Dreamcast"?), and on and on.
- Bots could be created - because playing Blood on the net..... well, you know ;(
- Team Fortress and other gameplay modifications will then be possible.
- Someone could do up a console with Quake-style key bindings. Virtually every other game has one, why shouldn't Blood?
- Someone could work on the ENEMY AI. Those cultists aren't the brightest stars in the sky. However, since some of us like it that way, the AI should be scaleable from a slidebar in the options menu, and also through fine-tuning in the console.
- Extensibility for mod authors. New weapons and special FX for cool Total Conversions and Modifications.
- Let's get some better support for those really high resolutions.
The possibilities just seem endless, don't they?
